Welcome!

Hey, I’m Nadia and I’m the founder of Embracing Harvest.

What we do

We serve people who are totally ready to take control of their health and the food that they eat. Many of them love the idea of having a garden and growing their own food, but they’re not sure where to start. Or they can’t figure out how to sift through the endless advice and information out there.

We give them the tools to get exactly what they want, which is a step-by-step plan to create a backyard food garden that not only brings them immense joy, but is also super productive. And we do it in a way that’s approachable and doesn’t make them feel like they have to know any and everything about gardening.  We do this by using a combination of education, inspiration and technology.

A bit about me

I’ve been working in corporate for over 16 years, most of which I managed a software for the company I worked for. I was responsible for customizing and expanding our use of this program to drive the business forward and help our sales team be more productive.  While I enjoyed the challenge and seeing the platform grow, I felt like something was missing.  I really wanted the opportunity to make an impact in people’s health, wellness and the environment.

I had been an avid health enthusiast for years, taking a holistic nutritionist course “for fun”, but in doing so I learned far more than I ever expected about the food we eat. I realized the way most food is grown and the substances added to the healthy foods I was eating might be doing more harm than good, so I decided to learn everything I could about growing my own food at home.

But this was a daunting task. I knew nothing about gardening. So off I went to learn all I could. I read dozens and dozens of books and watched hundreds of videos. I then spent a decade of trial and error trying to put all that information together.  I thought – there must be a more efficient way to do this.

Since I had been so comfortable with software and managing databases, I created a few of my own to make my life easier. Specifically around managing my garden and planning my meals. I never thought about making a business out of it (which in hindsight is kind of crazy), but once my mind opened up to this possibility, I knew there was no going back.  I had to share these tools with others so they could benefit from them the same way I had.

Enough about business, what else?

When I’m not working with my team to expand our products or sharing videos on YouTube and my blog, I can be found on the golf course with my husband, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen or hanging out with my two kids. We love spending time together outside and I have so much fun with them as we plant seeds together or find new food to sample in the garden.

Here are 10 facts you might not know about me:

  1. When I was in high school, I fully expected to be a fashion designer
  2. I avoid all animal products 90% of the time, but still eat them occasionally
  3. I visit a farm stand or farmers market whenever I travel to a new city
  4. I secretly loved my long work commute because I got to binge listen to audio books and podcasts without interruption
  5. I played competitive golf in my 20’s
  6. I got to see the world really young since my mom & dad were born and raised in Sweden & Egypt respectively
  7. I had a traumatic experience with a dog when I was little and I’m still kind of scared of them to this day
  8. I’m passionate about making meaningful change in the world & running an extremely successful business, and I don’t think I could do one without the other
  9. I think everyone deserves 6+ weeks vacation a year and should get Friday afternoons off
  10. I’ve tried tons of diet trends over the years and finally realized I hate diets. As long as I feel energized from the food I eat and I’m happy with where my food came from – that’s all that matters.
