Yes, an indoor edible garden is possible.  

Perhaps you rent, maybe you live in an apartment or condo, or maybe you’ve used up all your outdoor space for a pool and a wicked patio. Hey, I don’t blame you, I’m still waiting for my pool… hint hint… 

If you can’t grow outside for whatever reason, it is still possible to have edible food at home.  

This week I had the pleasure of meeting up with Prisca Learmann, a great gal I met at a local health and wellness conference. I loved the tower she had set up in her booth and I asked her to show me everything she’s growing in her aeroponic tower garden. It’s pretty amazing stuff.  

She had full sized beans, kale, chard, and tons of herbs… all in a teeny tiny footprint.

Is hydroponics a good idea?

Here’s the thing, I’ve heard a lot of bad press about hydroponics, and in particular how it relates to organic growing. The Cornucopia Institute wrote a great article about it. I’m all for growing directly in soil whenever possible. And while I don’t love the idea of hydroponics in commercial organic farming, I definitely see a place for it in the home garden. Especially if this is the only way you can grow food at home. I’d much rather grow in a tower garden over buying imported (and also possibly hydroponically grown) food. Better to have freshly picked homegrown food and know the ingredients that went into it.
